help me to stop smoking! stop smoking medications, stop smoking help, stop smoking plans and more
My friend’s dad was just diagnosed with COPD and i think of him as my own father which makes this harder. He’s 45 and he refuses to stop smoking and drinking which makes me scared for him. How long does he have if he doesn’t stop smoking? Will it be a painful way for him to go? Please be honest, i would like to show him this and maybe he will stop smoking and try to help himself.

I know exactly how you feel, I was in a very similar situation. I remember that I was so nervous at that time and I took it out on everyone around me. I didnt know what could I do until, thanks god, I found Smoke Deter. Now I can look back and laugh on myself and in the same time I remember how helpless I was. I hope that I'll never be in the same situation again

I was diagnosed with COPD about 7 or 8 years ago. I’d quit smoking two or three years prior to my diagnosis. I can tell you that your friend’s father needs to quit smoking it will only worsen his condition. I can honestly tell you that a diagnosis of COPD is not an automatic death sentence. While the condition is not reversible….there are many medications on the market that can slow down the progression of the disease and improve the quality of his life.
In case you are unaware of what COPD is, it is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It consists of Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema. Not all people have all three but many do. My own father has lived with COPD for many years, he will be 80 years old in Aug and only went into the nursing home for declining health about a year ago.
I would strongly recommend that your friend’s father find a good pulmonologist and begin treatment. Also, he needs to have a pnuemonia shot and yearly flu vaccinations. He also needs to avoid people who are sick, as COPD does compromise your immune system.
I hope this helped.

specific prognosis hard to determine…continued smoking will shorten his life considerably.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is when the lungs retain C02 with limited oxygen exchange. Length of time depends. Smoking will diminish his all ready poor oxygen exchange rate. Having seen making people pass from COPD I can tell you the it is a horrible way to go and they will struggle for breath til the end. Once in what is called end-stage COPD Hospice will be a great asset with easing of the shortness of air
(SOA). Oxygen supplement is needed at a certain point. If he is on oxygen at this time smoking while using O2 can cause combustion. Also if using O2 he should not go above 3 liters a minute which could cause him to retain too much oxygen causing his brain to think that he has enough O2 and he will cease to breath. This is due to the fact that is body is used to the low amount of oxygen. Hope this helps as graphic as it is.
He apparently has some issues. You don’t say what his general physical condition is. But just going by what you did say he probably won’t live to retire. If he stops smoking, starts eating healthy, getting exercise, proper rest, he could live to a ripe old age. It depends on him how he wants to die.Have him put a plastic bag over his face and leave it there.Maybe put a little hole in the bag. That’s what it feels like to suffocate. I’ve been there. No one should die like that. Shoot me let me get run over by a bus but don’t let me die that way. It takes too long and 911 isn’t fast enough.
Pray for him and tell him how you feel. Maybe that will motivate him.
