How long your lungs when you quit smoking?

help me to stop smoking! stop smoking medications, stop smoking help, stop smoking plans and more

I smoked for 8 years about 15 per day. I have now quit and feel great and am really getting into heavy cardio work. Is it possible to clear my lungs of all the cr#p and how long roughly would it take?

I know exactly how you feel, I was in a very similar situation. I remember that I was so nervous at that time and I took it out on everyone around me. I didnt know what could I do until, thanks god, I found Smoke Deter. Now I can look back and laugh on myself and in the same time I remember how helpless I was. I hope that I'll never be in the same situation again

Here’s a little timeline about some of the more immediate effects of quitting smoking and how that will affect your body RIGHT NOW.

    If you quit right now……….

In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.
In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.
In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.
In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.
In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

Yes is starts reversing almost immediately. Its been 10 years since my guy stopped and he never gets sick anymore.

  6. Ellie says:

It takes 10 years for your lungs to completely go back to normal, even if you don’t feel the effects of your smoking in those 10 years it takes that long to get rid of all the tar, chemicals and blackness.

not exaclt,y your lungs are black and they will get lighter in color little by little, very slowly… just maintain a healthy diet to speed up the process. eat anitoxidants food like fruits and vegetables. jsut eat healthy and try to avoid deep fried food and fast food. you sshould go to a nutritionist at the fitness centre and a personal trainer. they help alot

I’ve read around the internet that it is 4 years, so i can’t help you with this question but what i can help you with is more facts about giving up smoking:

    * Within the first 24 hours your blood pressure and lungs will be showing improvement.
    * After three months your circulation and breathing should have improved noticeably.
    * After five years, your risk of having a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker.
    * After ten years, your risk of lung cancer falls to about half that of a smoker.

congrats for quitting, are you still coughing up gunk?when that ends you will be on the mend.just be careful to watch your calorie intake and drink lots of fluids so it makes the mucous looser to cough up.in 6 months to a year i bet a doctor could never tell you smoked.FYI if you want to buy life insurance now the rates are sooo much cheaper.

You should feel an improvment rather quickly which you apparently did. In 2-3 months you will stop coughing. The longer you’re away from smoking it just gets better. It’s very hard to say how long it will take your lungs to heal because I don’t know your medical history. But at the level you smoked and if you’re not asthmatic or have any other lung conditions usually a year. But then I don’t even know how old you are. I’m sorry but it’s hard to say.

  13. Dr who says:

about 20 minutes after the last smoke your body begins it’s healing process and about 10 years or so your lungs will be in great shape and your heart and stroke risk reduced to someone who has never smoked.
