I have asthma and was wondering if the recovery will be the same. Ive been smoking 2-5 cigs a day for 4 years, and marijuana regularly for 6 years. last night i smoked 3 blunts with some friends and all day today ive felt like i have serious emphasema, my asthma has been noticable all day, it hurts to fully breathe in, and ive had a painful cough. My inhaler only helps with the wheezing. I am going to attempt to quit ciggerettes, and i will never touch a blunt again.

Are there any specific things i should know about smoke related asthma??

In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.

In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.

In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.

In 72 hours your brochial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.

In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.

In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate and your lung capacity improves by 10%.

In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.

In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.

In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

First of all a MASSIVE congratulations - 3 months in and you are not mentioning the craving! Brilliant. I am a mere 18 days into no smoking, I smoked for 33 years between 15 and 20 a day. I am only 44 now but started very young.

I have read so much about this and find that the tar never completely leaves your lungs, it diminishes over years and years, but with all the pollution in the atmosphere (not as bad as inhaling tobacco but still pollution) it never goes completely.

I trust you are feeling healthier though (I certainly am) which is a sure sign that you have helped to prevent any problems that may have occurred due to your smoking.

Again, well done.
