Iv quit smoking.Is there anything I can do to surpress the craving when I am having a few beers?

I went to the pub on the weekend for a few beers and it was horrible. Iv coped quite well with not smoking but this was the first time I’d drank since I quit and I didn’t enjoy my night and felt really subdued. People kept asking if I was ok because I was quiet and didn’t seem myself at all. Its my birthday in a few weeks and I want to have a few beers (well…quite a few actually) and have a good time, but to be honest I’m not looking forward to it after my experience on the weekend. Is there ANYTHING I can do to surpress my cravings when I drink?

I know exactly how you feel, I was in a very similar situation. I remember that I was so nervous at that time and I took it out on everyone around me. I didnt know what could I do until, thanks god, I found Smoke Deter. Now I can look back and laugh on myself and in the same time I remember how helpless I was. I hope that I'll never be in the same situation again

    I have the same problem. Snacking on peanuts works to alleviate some of the craving.

    Try nicotine gums or nicotine patches, it helped me a lot.

    You could get some Quest cigarettes. They are all the fun of smoking without the Nicotine. You will feel better and you won’t get addicted again. They also have some low-nicotine ones too!

    Have 2 beers at a time. That should keep your hands busy.

    Seriously though the early days are always the hardest. Persevere and you’ll find your beer nights will get better and more fun. Explain to your friends and ask for their support, if you haven’t already.

    try substituing cigeratte smoke, with crystal meth or crack cocaine. This worked wonders for me.

    Why dont you stop going to places that are putting you at risk to smoke…at least for now since you recently stopped smoking?

    When I gave up smoking, I found going out and having a few drinks really difficult, and, like you I felt miserable and deprived. The only way I coped with it was to just keep reminding myself the reasons why I had stopped, and I kept looking at all the smokers and thinking how disgusting it was. I know it sounds easier said than done, but I can’t honestly think of any other way, unless you just don’t drink which would be a bit of a bummer on your birthday. What I do remember is waking up in the morning and feeling really happy that I didn’t have that horrible taste in my mouth form too many ciggies. Don’t give into it. It’s my birthday in a few weeks as well, so as a fellow libran I know you can do it. P.S-If your not using patches you could put a patch on for the night, just to take the edge off.

    i had this trouble when i quit the fags.drinking a glass of wine and havin a smoke just came natural to me.it feels as though your missing something at first.silly as it may seem i used to carry a plastic tube with me and when i had the urge i hold the tube like a fag whilst i had me drink strange i know but it eased off the urge til i got used to not smokin when i had a drink

    Im not sure what youd do to curve the craving. Im worried about that too. My hubby and I are gonna try to quit, and Im worried cuz Im a big coffee drinker, and cigs go hand and hand with drinking alcohol and coffee.

    Take some gum with you when youre gonna be out drinking or wherever.

    Had the same problem. I used to chew on straws or swizzle sticks used to stir drinks. Kept my other hand busy, plus gave me the impression that I was holding/smoking a cigarette. (Although you might get a few dumb looks/comments when you flick your "ash" off a straw, or try to light it!!) Good Luck!!
