Our baby Caitlyn was born at 24wk 6 days gestation, after being on a ventilator for 2 months she started showing signs of progress and was put on c.pap, then onto an headbox she was doing really well until two weeks ago. Then for the past two weeks her oxygen requirments have slowly increased and dispite our concerns the doctors have been saying theres nothing, Now she is on 100% oxygen and the doctors are seriously concern, when we ask if test result are back they say Not Yet! Their not telling us anything. Her breathing is rapid sometimes over 100 resp’s per minute. Heart rate is sometimes over 200 and she has a temp of upto 37. 5 but their managing it with no clothing and fans. What could be the cause of this?

If you want a clear, straight answer from a doctor you’re not going to get one (for fear of recrimination if he gets it wrong). This the wrong place to ask for medical advice, even if I were a doctor how could I give a correct diagnosis based on what you’ve written. One thing though, if you’re not happy with the way the doctor is handling it, change him. People are under the impression that doctors make no mistakes and are all equally as good as one another, well they’re not. If you not happy do something about it now. Wish you all the best and the baby.

IF THIS SITUATION IS TRUE THEN WHY WOULD YOU ASK THE LUNATICS ON HERE ABOUT MEDICAL ADVICE ABOUT THE MOST PRECIOUS THING US PARENTS CAN HAVE …OUR CHILDREN..
DONT YOU THINK YOU WOULD GET BETTER ADVICE FROM THE MEDICAL STAFF THAT ARE TREATING YOUR CHILD…
I am so sorry to read what you are going through with your daughter. I am not medically trained so have no real answers for you other than to tell you to get the doctors to explain properly. Tell them you want to know the truth and have things explained properly. they have a duty to keep you informed so you need to keep asking until someone sits you down and explains everything thoroughly in a way that you can understand. I am not suggesting you are thick it’s just that medical terms are very confusing.
Fingers crossed Caitlyn starts to improve again my thought are with you good luck.
Please find another doctor, its VERY urgent that you do so. I’m not saying leave the first one alone, but get a second opinion. That way youll have more doctors trying to find a solution.
I would not hesitate to ask to speak to the Head of the Department of Paediactric care where your baby is being looked after. State clearly what the problem is (that you feel your baby is not receiving adequate care.)and threaten to get legal advice. If the situation does not improve within a shift change (i.e 8 hours) and they are still not telling what is going on then you have no recourse but to seek urgent legal advice. Go to your lawyer, courthouse, or even the police….whatever you’re comfortable with. Don’t be afraid of the staff as your baby’s life may be at stake.
How horrible for all of you and bless you all! You are your childs best advocate! If you feel that she isn’t getting the best care, and you aren’t getting the answers you need then you have the right to a new team of doctors! Go to the head of Pediatrics ! Get leagal advice, what ever it takes! She’s depending on you to make all her choices for her, so if her docs aren’t helping, get her new ones quickly, before it’s too late for them to help her!
I don’t know what is causing the jump in temp.. hopefully they’ve done blood work to check for infection.or viruses… I’ll keep my fingers crossed for her and hope for the best for all of you.
Remember.. you are her best bet in life, do everything in your power to get on those docs about answers or get new docs!

im going to bre straight forwared i have been reading through my mum old medical books and it could be caused by an infection defenitly check with the doctors
oh no, I,m sorry to here that Hon, I never even knew Babies could get Lung Disease, That is usually caused by SMOKING !

I don’t know, but your baby and family are in my prayers.
It could be BPD-Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia. Look that up and read on it. It is common from being on the ventilator. I don’t know a lot about it, but it is characteristic for high oxygen demands. Just check into it and ask the doctor about it. Is she still in the hospital? NICU? If not maybe she should be. I hope this helped you.
