help me to stop smoking! stop smoking medications, stop smoking help, stop smoking plans and more

Okay, my mom’s boyfriend smokes and I can’t stand the smell, plus I don’t want him to get cancer. He used to smoke, then he stopped, then he started again when his wife left him. He had talked about quitting, but hasn’t done anything about it. HELP!!!

My dad used to be a drinker but he quit, then he got layed off so he started smoking. He is 57 so he has been drinking for a long time but started smoking about 5 months ago. He coughs alot and it sounds sick. I dont want him to get cancer and die like my aunt did. He smokes in the car right in front of me and me and my older sister both wish he would stop. Sometimes he smokes some kind of long brown cigarish thing and other time ciggarets. Im tired of smelling his second hand poisen. Of course ill never do drugs i just wish he would stop because he is old and still has a beer belly, plus his hair is white, almost bald? Please help me this is urgent. Im 13 and his baby girl and i dont know what i would do if he died.

My family watched my father-in-law die of cancer from smoking. It was a saddest thing I have ever seen, and my kids were forever impressed by it to avoid smoking and become sort of anti-smoking advocates. Do you think seeing something like that would make you stop smoking?

Okay, first off, I am 16 1/2 years old. I have been in some trouble in the past 2-5 years .. i smoke cigarettes, weed, and drink alcohol. My parents have accepted that I smoke cigarettes and usually buy them for me, some people dont agree with that, but I have more than half of my friends being over 18, and my parents smoked when they were younger and know how addictive it is. With the whole marijuana thing, weed relaxes me, and takes alot, and i mean alot, of stress away. I have never been caught by the police with weed, and im not saying it couldnt happen, but I am a respectful weed smoker and mostly will smoke a little bit before bed, or in the morning, etc., but I am never high to the point my personality changes. My close friend just got murdered 2 weeks ago, my cousin died in a car crash in June 2009, my grandma died when I was 6, my great grandma died when I was 12, and my grandpa has cancer as of right now is expected to live no more than 3 months. I try and block everything out but Its hard. I believe weed should be legal, and i dont want treatment for weed because I do not feel I have a problem. My parents apparently talked to my therapist about it (I have ADHD & ODD – ODD is oppositional defiancy disorder). My therapist is very highly rated and she told my parents I didnt want to agree to treatment. I guess it would be random urine tests, etc., until I stop or something like that. My therapist told my parents I have 2 options, the easy and the hard. Either I go to her, or she is going to help them to get me in with the court. Apparently the court would test more often and possibly (probably) either have me put into a rehab or a nonpermanent home. I am going to try and work around the whole ordeal all together but I don’t feel as if I am being given ANY rights as an american citizen. I did not harm anybody, yet I may have to be put into a rehab, or taken from my home just because I smoke weed every once in a while?? What are my rights? Also, I have trust problems.. to the fullest, how is my therapist helping AT ALL by attempting to MAKE me go here, and behind my back telling my parents things they can do to basically screw me over. by the way – nobody knows me, thank you to the people who didnt judge me, but i have been through WAY WAY WAY more than death in my life. lol. i watched my cousin overdose on heroine when i was 8 years old. ive been raped. the whole bit. but im not saying my life is hard, NOT ONE TIME did i say my life is hard, people will always have it worse. but that doesnt mean i dont have it bad :/ . and i have alot of problems, but when i smoke weed, i am nicer, and i care more. when i dont smoke weed, i am depressed, and really really anger and dont want to take my medication.
oh and to the CKUNT that said oppositional defiancy order is a joke, bxtch, i didnt diagnose myself. i got diagnosed and forced to go the this therapist. i hope i never see you in my life cause it will not be pretty, no threat intended

This is a cry for help. I’m fifteen I’ve been smoking for about three years now. Three! Very heavy smoker use to be able to smoke up two packs easily this year went down to about one… then for the past week ive been down to 9 ciggerates.. and im now im starting to get right back to one pack. There’s a history of cancer on both sides of my family, and I really don’t want to lose my life before I have the chance to grow up completely and see my future, I’m asking for you guys to just guide me through this, what can I do to effectively stop me from smoking the nicotine patches aren’t doing it, and ive got a pretty good amount of will power i guess, but probably not enough if im not pulling through. If any of you have smoked and quit please tell what is the most effective way just to get it out of your head, and never turn back because I can’t! I also must add its difficult to, when theres other people who smoke around you, i just need to get the umph to get out of the room though.

ok……all my friends smoke….and eventually i started also……i am not yet addicted to it…..but since i started every one looks at me differently…..like i am a more worthy person……but i rly have some doubts about smoking…..so im thinking to stop doing so…….now, apart from death and cancer, give me three good reasons to stop smoking

I love her so much, she is like my life to me. I dont want her to get cancer , heart attack. I want her to live long and be healthy. I never smoke nor drink. I have seen many people who died by smoking and drinking.
How is it possible to stop her? have u ever had experience like me?

My mom has smoked cigarettes for a very long time, and I cannot convince her to stop. I’ve tried giving her facts and statistics about smoking problems and diseases and how she is endangering me, and whenever I try to talk to her about it she says, "Don’t worry about it." And then if I try to lead on the conversation more, she will yell at me. The only other thing she answered me with is, "It’s too hard to quit." But she has never tried to quit before. I am sick of breathing smoke all the time, I’m sick of not being able to have friends over because they get headaches when they are at my house (many have told me), and I am sick of sitting here watching my mother suck on cancer sticks just wasting her life away, and endangering me and everyone else. She refuses to just smoke outside, and air purifiers are not an option. (They are too expensive) We are also not doing so good financially and she ignores the fact that that’s where all the money goes. Please help me.
Thanks for all the answers already, and I have given her facts and such but she just pushes me away and will not listen to me at all. I have ended up in tears trying to convince her but she cares about her cigarettes more. All I ask is for her to try and she isn’t at all. She didn’t stop when she was pregnant with me or my brother, and she almost lost me because I was born prematurely, but she still didn’t try.

How can I tell someone to stop smoking? She knows all the facts (it gives you cancer, emphysema, etc.), but she is young, so she still has that invincible mentality. What can I tell her about smoking’s cosmetic effects that will make her consider quitting? (besides the usual stains your teeth and your hands)

I`ve been getting quite worried about my parents for some time now. They smoke about 15-20 cigarettes a day and have been since they were 15 years old. Two of my grandparents have died of cancer, probably because of smoking, some years ago. I really don`t want them to die. So if anyone have any good suggestions so that I can get them to stop, please tell me. They have tried to quit smoking before, but I`m not sure how motivated they acctually were…

I lost my grandpa when I was 6 because of Cancer and my grandma smokes as much as he used to. What’s the best way to stop her from smoking? I don’t want her to be known as a smoker.

My friend went to the doctor recently, and they found traces of cancer in his blood. However, he doesn’t want to stop smoking. Talking to him won’t help because he’s given up on life. He hasn’t told his parents yet, and making him feel guilty doesn’t work. How do I stop him?

My dad has been smoking for more than 30 yrs. Now a mass was found in his lungs. If this is cancer, should he stop smoking abruptly? I heard that if you stop smoking abruptly, then there is a bigger chance of developing cancer. Can anybody confirm this. Is quitting gradually more advisable? Thanks

my boyfriend really doesn’t like me smoking and i want to quit. The only reason he wants me to stop is because emphysemia runs in my dads side of the family, and quite a few members of his family died from cancer, and he watched his grandad pass away from cancer. Please help me, any suggestions would be great. thank you. x

why is it that people only stop smoking when they find out that they or freind/family member get cancer and what is the best way to stop?

I’ve smoked so many cigarettes in my life-I’m finding it very difficult to stop!The thing is,I know it’ll kill me if I don’t stop,due to the amount of fags I smoke!
I’m 34 years old,I’m worried I could develop cancer in my 40’s or 50’s if I don’t stop now-been a smoker since high school.

My fiance has been smoking on and off for probably 15 years. He’s successfully quit a few times, only to eventually end up smoking again. He smokes about half a pack a day right now. He knows how much I can’t stand it because I don’t want to lose him to cancer or heart disease in 20 years, but this doesn’t seem to deter him enough. He wants to stop, or at least he says so, and he has tried the gum and the lozenges with a little success, but he doesn’t seem completely motivated (sometimes he’ll choose the cigarette over the lozenge, for example). What can I do to help him stop for good? Do you have any ideas, or ways that you’ve helped someone stop smoking?
He hates fixing stuff up around the house, unless it’s a comuputer heh… but I could keep his hands busy with a video game.. thanks for the idea.

I think he also likes the social aspect of smoking, which is an even harder thing to break imo…
