Why does Health Insurance not pay for Chantix, to help people to stop smoking?

Why does Health Insurance not pay for Chantix, to help people to stop smoking? I just recently got a prescription for Chantix to help me quit smoking, and insurance will not pay for it? The pharmacist told me that pretty much no insurance will pay for this. Why is it, we are told by scientists, doctors, media, and yes insurance that we need to stop smoking, but yet insurance will not pay o help us have a successful chance at quitting?

How do I get family members to quit smoking?

All adults in my family smoke…a few with medical conditions (like a quadruple bypass) that have made the doctors say "QUIT SMOKING." Most won’t even try to quit. Any suggestions other than guilt-trips and nagging?

Our baby Caitlyn was born at 24wk 6 days gestation, after being on a ventilator for 2 months she started showing signs of progress and was put on c.pap, then onto an headbox she was doing really well until two weeks ago. Then for the past two weeks her oxygen requirments have slowly increased and dispite our concerns the doctors have been saying theres nothing, Now she is on 100% oxygen and the doctors are seriously concern, when we ask if test result are back they say Not Yet! Their not telling us anything. Her breathing is rapid sometimes over 100 resp’s per minute. Heart rate is sometimes over 200 and she has a temp of upto 37. 5 but their managing it with no clothing and fans. What could be the cause of this?

Do I need more medication for my asthma?

I am taking beclametasone (preventer), Salbutamol (reliever) and montekulast singulair (add on) for my asthma. I have started to wake up at night coughing and having to use my reliever at least once a day. I don’t have a chest infection so I’m not sure whether to go to the doctors or not? Can he do anything else to help me?

How many people out there trying to quit smoking.?

All I seem to hear about is why people should pack up smoking. Well if that is the case, why do the Government not make all Quit Smoking Aids FREE from Pharmacies. Junkies can get Needles Free, Why Not Patches/Gum for Smokers.
I Live in London, Uk
To TOECEE where do you Live??? Not Free at my Doctors I asked.

If someone with COPD and CHF has constant relux, what does it mean?

Family member has both COPD and CHF, and for couple of months now has had increased reflux the minute she puts head down on pillow. It’s not necessarily acid, but it’s like most liquid of what ever it’s eaten just goes up, sometimes accompanied by tiny pieces of food. We avoid for her going straight to sleep right after dinner, afraid fluids may go to lungs, but seldom does she want to wait half hour before going to sleep or at least lying down.

She’s been only treated for those two diseases but I recall reading about her abdominal aorta in the medical records we got from hospital after one of her stays. Her home visiting doctor got a copy as well_aside from the one he got from us_and unfortunately mine has been put away in boxes and would take a while before I find it. I never asked any of her doctors about it, since they did not talk about it either. I’m planning on asking about it and letting them know about this reflux on Monday. Is it customary in people with her condition?

What foods should people with COPD and heart disease avoid completely?

Someone in my family has COPD and heart disease, which may include enlarged heart and definetely arrhythmia. I add no salt to food and make sure canned goods, such as sausages are rinsed. This goes for ham and many other salty foods.

Still, in last two years when she got very ill_having been diagnosed with COPD and some of the heart problems few years earlier_and having been in and out of hospital in at least five occassions, I still believe a lot of her crisis have to do with whatever additives (including salt) there are in packaged goods. By the way none of the doctors_and there have been plenty of them_have "strongly" cautioned against salt. Until unfortunately she has a crisis, which inludes a sort of inbalance, such as sodium being LOW instead of high, or normal for that matter. The potassium sometimes gets high, towards the end of her stay at hospital. And of course there’s the worse part which is the high concentration of carbon dioxide, occurring in patients w/COPD.

Asthma???????

ive just been the doctors and been diagnosed with asthma, he explained it all to me but i didnt catch it all (hes foreign) can anybody explain to me what astma is? and what causes it?
