Hi, I have been smoking for about 6-7 months now, and I just found out that my sport made it into the 2016 Olympics. I was wondering if my lungs would regenerate by that time, as I would like to make it into the Olympics?
I am 17 years old, been smoking about 10 – 15 a day.
I just quit smoking (actually haven’t smoked in just over a week now) and I want to help my lungs repair quicker. I am in the stages of coughing up tons of mucus and it sucks, but I know its just a sign of healing. What can I do to speed up or aid this process?

I know smoking tabacco is bad and I’m trying to quit. I just wanted to know if I quit and then have a relapse, am I doing worse damage to my lungs because they’ve had some time to heal and then I go traumatize them again?
So i quit smoking a month ago. People say they cough stuff up after they quit and that is the lungs cleaning themselves out. Well i haven’t coughed up anything until very recently and its like white/grayish/yellow. I really dont know how to describe it. Is that a bad color? Or is it normal? Has this happened to anyone else? How do you know if the color is normal or not?
I have recently quit smoking. (I smoked heavily for 11 yrs.) It’s been about a week, and I can NOT stop coughing. I assume my lungs are just healing from the previous smoking. How long does this horrible coughing last?
I am male 55 and smoking since last 35 years, now almost 15 cigarettes a day. Yes i am adicted, no doubt about it …
i am 5′4" with 200 lbs (overweight), have no sugar or blood pressure but have high colestrols and damaged my lungs
What should i do to quit smoking? i tried many a times but failed … only a smoker can understand how difficult it is to quit, so expect some answer from people who already have quit smoking …
I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE … don’t say ‘just quit’ … it does not work, as i don’t have that strong will power & nicotine is now in my blood
Ive been smoking for 4 years. Im about to quit because I want to start Boxing. Will my lungs be able to go back to normal so my stanima will go back up?
I have smoked Newports for about 8-9 years now i resently quit i have been smoking weed for about 7-8years everyday same as ciggaretts. My question is are my lungs going to get healthier even tho i smoke weed. I also just smoke about 3-4 joints a day.
I’ve been smoking cigarettes for approx. 1 year+ now, & I have roughly 5 cigarettes a day. I want to quit smoking because I just tried to run a mile & found it incredibley difficult >_< If I quit smoking now, will the damage on my lungs improve or is it permanent?

forgot to say! i am 50 in april cannot stop smoking and the nondescript growth is growing about one centimetre a month
although i have suffered breathlessness for many many years all these problems have started/become more severe since aortic (human) valve replacement 3 years ago
She doesn’t smoke very often and had actually quit for quite a while but she recently started again and it really hurts me when she does because my father has emphysema and has a spot on his lungs from smoking and I’ve had to watch him suffer for quite a while, but they’re addicting and I know it’s very difficult to stop. I was just wondering if there is a sure fire way to stop once and for all.
My dad has been smoking for more than 30 yrs. Now a mass was found in his lungs. If this is cancer, should he stop smoking abruptly? I heard that if you stop smoking abruptly, then there is a bigger chance of developing cancer. Can anybody confirm this. Is quitting gradually more advisable? Thanks
The back of my lungs ache,is it possible to retain oxygen and still have COPD. If so why do I get really short of breathe, doing hardly anything?? I am on oxygen 24/7
The disease attacks your lungs and air ways.
I hear tell that when you smoke a cigar you don’t inhale the smoke into your lungs, just your mouth, therefore would I be right in thinking this makes them ‘healthier’ (comparatively) than cigarettes?
Your concern is touching everyone, but I only smoke occassionally and really can and do stop whenever I feel like it. I thought I might try a cigar or two to see what the fuss is about ![]()
well my sister smokes(like a chimney!)and i love her dearly i would just die if anything happened to her(no joke)so i know smoking is really bad for you and stuff because it damages your lungs and so,but she just won’t listen to me what can i do/say to convince her to stop smoking?!?!
thanks in advance and happy new year!
Everyday they smoke and everytime they do, i tell them to quit. But they just ignore me or push me aside and say something along the lines of ‘dont worry, just leave me alone and i’ll quit’ BUT THEY SAID THAT YEARS AGO!
They cant stop smoking and after tons of learning about cigarettes in health class, im always scared! Im not the type of person to tell my parents that i cry at night about it (i dont) and stuff.
Thier too addicted, it kills thier lungs and thier wallets.
How can i stop them? One time i tried telling them to stop smoking but they just yell at me and send me to my room or something. Its bugging me ALOT.
They usually go out for a smoke whenever they can (commercial breaks) but they have a habit of ging after they eat.
My parents started smoking when they were really young (14 etc) and now thier 30 ish.
but… its hurting me so bad… i cant stand it
I smoked for 8 years about 15 per day. I have now quit and feel great and am really getting into heavy cardio work. Is it possible to clear my lungs of all the cr#p and how long roughly would it take?
what is the lung disease where u get liquid in your lungs. What are the symptoms?
Im 21 years old and have been smoking since i was 14. I have just recently quit and am wondering if my lungs will ever get back to the same health as someone who has never smoked or will they just get better but never 100% ?
My husband is 43 yrs old and has had COPD for the last 4 or 5 yrs. His estimated age of lungs is 126 yrs. He’s still smoking. How long can he live with that?
My husband has got COPD and he wont quit those damn cigarettes!
He’s got the estimated lung age of 126 yrs, he’s on advair but not on oxygen yet. He’s 43 yrs old, and has had COPD for about 4 yrs. How long do you think he could live?
Family member has both COPD and CHF, and for couple of months now has had increased reflux the minute she puts head down on pillow. It’s not necessarily acid, but it’s like most liquid of what ever it’s eaten just goes up, sometimes accompanied by tiny pieces of food. We avoid for her going straight to sleep right after dinner, afraid fluids may go to lungs, but seldom does she want to wait half hour before going to sleep or at least lying down.
She’s been only treated for those two diseases but I recall reading about her abdominal aorta in the medical records we got from hospital after one of her stays. Her home visiting doctor got a copy as well_aside from the one he got from us_and unfortunately mine has been put away in boxes and would take a while before I find it. I never asked any of her doctors about it, since they did not talk about it either. I’m planning on asking about it and letting them know about this reflux on Monday. Is it customary in people with her condition?
I have early stage COPD and suffered with lung infections for about 30 years. I am 56 y.o. female. 4 years ago diagnosed with pseudomonas aeuriginosa of lungs which is drug resistant.
Does chronic pulmonary diseases or disorders make people wake up in the middle of the night due to difficulty in breathing? Does this mean that the lungs can’t function anymore, much less about to collapse? Is chronic pulmonary disorder fatal?
