I’ve been hooked on Nicotine for about 2 years now, and im 17-1/2 years of age. Ive tried numerous methods and ways, but somehow my mind keeps giving into the cravings. Sometimes i like to play guitar just to keep my mind off smoking, but after a half hour or so, i give it up and go right for the cigarettes. In my mind, im saying "gotta have a smoke.", but in reality, all its doing is torturing me and my lungs, and my entire body. SOMEONE HELP ME FOR THE SAKE OF MY REALITY CHECK AND RELATIONSHIP WISE!
I have been trying to quit smoking for the last three months. But whenever I’m not very busy doing something I have the erge to smoke. Also, when I at work, some of my co worker know that I am trying to quit and they make things worse because that start asking whether I have had a cigarrette. The fact that they even mentioned it makes me want a cigarette, so I end of lapsing. I don’t want to use the patch or any drugs that help to stop smoking. And I really don’t crave the nicotine. It’s really a habit. For instance, when I get in the car, I am use to lighting a cigarrette. So, I do. I’ve tried chewing gum and that works only a short while. To add on, I am trying to loose weight as well. One day, I did ok, but I craved chocolate and sugar all day long. I ate all day long, too. What else can I do? Not to mention, I have asthma, as well.
I’ve been smoking a pack of cigarettes for 8 years now. At the moment, I am cigarette free for 3 days and 11 hours. This is the first time that I try to quit smoking.
So, I have a few questions…
Is it better to stop smoking and use nicotine patches, or discard any form of nicotine replacements?
I’ve been wearing nicotine patches during the day for the first two days, I took the patch off yesterday afternoon and this morning I took it off an hour after I put it on.
Initially, I was thinking of solving my psychological addiction first, and then the physical one (by using 15 mg nicotine patches for a couple of weeks, then 10 mg, and lastly 5 mg).
Oh, by the way… I’ve been feeling a bit slow and weak for the last 24 hours or so, probably from the nicotine withdrawal, but should I just be patient and endure this for a few days, or go to my original idea of gradually decreasing the nicotine intake?
I actually don’t crave a cigarette that much. I can drink coffee without craving, I can have a drink with my friends who are smokers without craving, I don’t have that strange feeling of not knowing what to do with my hands, etc.
But I was just wondering whether to take nicotine replacement or not.
Btw, I’ve just realized that 15 mg dosage is way too much for me because a pack of my cigarette brand contains 12 mg, so I’ll try with the 10 mg patch instead.
This is a cry for help. I’m fifteen I’ve been smoking for about three years now. Three! Very heavy smoker use to be able to smoke up two packs easily this year went down to about one… then for the past week ive been down to 9 ciggerates.. and im now im starting to get right back to one pack. There’s a history of cancer on both sides of my family, and I really don’t want to lose my life before I have the chance to grow up completely and see my future, I’m asking for you guys to just guide me through this, what can I do to effectively stop me from smoking the nicotine patches aren’t doing it, and ive got a pretty good amount of will power i guess, but probably not enough if im not pulling through. If any of you have smoked and quit please tell what is the most effective way just to get it out of your head, and never turn back because I can’t! I also must add its difficult to, when theres other people who smoke around you, i just need to get the umph to get out of the room though.
I’m trying to find out if the electric cigarette is a good way to stop smoking? Is it harmful also? I know it has nicotine but so does the other alternatives, gum, inhalers, patches, and so on. I thought this would be the ticket but some of my friends are saying this is worse because your putting water into your lungs. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Being a smoker for years I had that problem with 3 cars. The first was so old and broken I wouldn’t mind smoking, eating, drinking, having intimate relations in it… no matter what or where, as long as it kept riding I just did everything I could with it. (Well, I was youngJ)
The second was a convertible; I got is as a prize for winning a swimming championship. Great car. Of course, being opened to fresh air all the time made it smell quite well. At that time I swam 9 times a week for 4 hours each time , so being in the water for long hours and then in my convertible to ride from and to my home made me usually a little cold and as a result smell almost nothing.
So for me only the third car is my test case. And yes, it got some strong smell when I left it in the airport parking when I got to a 21 days vacation in Italy. Unfortunately I forgot there a sack from the supermarket with cheese inside. The days were sunny in the parking and when we came back, well, we had a cheese stench as old as 21 days in august. Don’t imagine it to yourself. It is really an unforgettable experience. And so we get to it- How to get smoke smell out of car. My car!
I can count several options but let me save you time, work and money. So, the winning solution, after many experiments is one:
Ozium is an air sanitizer. It masks and also really eliminates the smell. It is a common product and you can find it all over, in many auto stores. You’ll find it in an 8 oz aerosol can. Spray the seats, its front and also the headliners, where the stanch holds most. If you won’t like its clinical odor then you better buy scented air freshener spray and use it afterward.
That’s it! Now you really know how to get smoke smell out of car. If you want you can use the traditional methods such as cleaning with water and vinegar but it will take you hell lots of time and work.
Hope you found it useful. Have a good car smell!
Way I looke at it, If Tobacco companies can put things such a nicotine in cigarettes and hook people, thus making themselves rich, why can’t the government get their hands on some of the nicotine slaves money too! (sarcasm)
Do smokers feel like slaves to the Tobacco industry and to our government now? Here in NC, the average carton of Cigs will go up 6 dollars as of monday morning!
BTW……Im not a smoker!
I am bound and determined to quit smoking, it’s been two days since I’ve had a smoke. I used to smoke a pack a day. I went cold turkey, and am using nicotine gum But the cravings are still really strong to smoke. I know individual experience will vary, but how long did it take for your really bad cravings to go away?
so I am wondering about ways to quit smoking without drugs. I am a recovery addict and don’t want to quit nicotine by putting more drugs in my body.
Anyone have any ideas ![]()
I have hyperthroid and i want to know if i can use the nicotine patch to stop smoking cigarettes.
I have now quit smoking for one month. The advice and information I received from this site has been very helpful. Anyone else who has quit for one month and can share advice? I am going to go off the nicotine patch in about 8 days, is this too soon? Thanks again to everyone.
For those who have actually quit smoking…did you use nicotine replacement like gum, patches, prescription etc? I know some quit cold turkey but I just want to know what the best aid for quitting smoking is. Thanks.
Glad you quit smoking but that really isn’t something to be proud of. Do you not have a job? I need something NOT illegal that I can use at work.
I quit all nicotine products about a week ago and I’ve since started having nightmares. I quit cold turkey, so no patches or gum could be the cause. I’ve been waking up 7-8 times a night at different hours after having crazy dreams, some are nightmares and some are just confusing. I haven’t had a solid nights sleep in a week and I could really use any feedback or help. Is this related to quitting? Does it last long? Any remedies?
I am male 55 and smoking since last 35 years, now almost 15 cigarettes a day. Yes i am adicted, no doubt about it …
i am 5′4" with 200 lbs (overweight), have no sugar or blood pressure but have high colestrols and damaged my lungs
What should i do to quit smoking? i tried many a times but failed … only a smoker can understand how difficult it is to quit, so expect some answer from people who already have quit smoking …
I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE … don’t say ‘just quit’ … it does not work, as i don’t have that strong will power & nicotine is now in my blood
I’m using the Nicorette inhaler to quit smoking. I’ve been smoking for 17 years and today was my first day of quitting and I did really good.
My question is what kind of changes can I expect in my body and when, even though I am still taking in a small amount of nicotine? If anyone knows, that would be great.
Thanks!
Smoke free for 1 Day, 3 Hours, and 35 Minutes. ![]()
My friend has been smoking for 7 years and she knows that’s it’s bad for her health, and etc. Sometimes she wants to quit but sometimes not. She’s tried quitting a couple of times. Once with a patch, once with the nicotine gum, but then she starts again. I really want to help but she says she’s really addicted, and too stressed out to be able to quit, and that she also doesn’t want to gain weight. I don’t know how to make her want to quit so bad that she would. Please help!!
I know each person is different, but about how long does it take for the cravings to go away. I can restraint from a cigarette for 8 hours each day at work, and have gone as long as 12 hours when I was on a trip with students. However, the minute the opportunity arises I’m having a cigarette. I crave the act of smoking much more than the nicotine I recieve from it (nicotine gum makes me crave a cigarette). I’ve tried to quit unsuccessfully and find if I don’t have access to them, the nicotine cravings occur about every 4-6 hours while the craving for a cigarette occurs ever 15-30 minutes. How long would it take for these cravings to disappear?
If you don’t understand the difference between craving a cigarette and craving the nicotine I don’t really know how to explain it to a non-smoker. Sorry.
Is it an actual side effect of nicotine leaving your body? I have quit smoking a million times and usually find myself lighting back up cause I can’t stand the misery.
But this time i’ve lasted over a month. I feel great. I’m not depressed anymore. Tho i’ve had heaps of bad shit happen to me while trying to quit, i’m pretty happy.
But my poor husband gave up smoking 4 days ago. And he’s miserable. Everything to him is negative. I hate to see him this way. I was that way too!
Is there anything to help him not be depressed. Or do you just have to get through those evil 2 weeks without smoking and it will go away. Is there a magic vitiman?
Cause I’ve done some therapy with nicotine patches and no results.
I have smoked for ten years and a week ago I decided to quit. I have been on the nicotine patch for 4 days now but it only helps a few hours each day.
I am disoriented, moody, depressed, and have these crazy migraines all day long. I am also drinking a lot more coffee and tea to make up for the nicotine.
How can I function better throught the day while I am trying to quit smoking?
