oxygen

our prem baby as cronic lung disease, now after 4 mths she is deteriating. What would cause this?

Our baby Caitlyn was born at 24wk 6 days gestation, after being on a ventilator for 2 months she started showing signs of progress and was put on c.pap, then onto an headbox she was doing really well until two weeks ago. Then for the past two weeks her oxygen requirments have slowly increased and dispite our concerns the doctors have been saying theres nothing, Now she is on 100% oxygen and the doctors are seriously concern, when we ask if test result are back they say Not Yet! Their not telling us anything. Her breathing is rapid sometimes over 100 resp’s per minute. Heart rate is sometimes over 200 and she has a temp of upto 37. 5 but their managing it with no clothing and fans. What could be the cause of this?

What can I do to exercise safely with copd?

I have moderate emphyzema. I take Advair and albuterol for a fast acting inhaler. I rarely use the inhaler. My problem is that I only need oxygen if I am moving around at all. I have gained 30 #s in the 18 months since I was diagnosed. What exercises can I do? I have done pulmonary rehab but that doesn’t help with the weight.

What is the role of the hospital nurse when looking after a breathless patient who has copd?

I know that you look at the saturation levels, breathing rate, cynosis. Provide oxygen 2litres and sit the patient up right assess there sputum sample and give reassurance

My husband has got COPD and he wont quit those damn cigarettes!
He’s got the estimated lung age of 126 yrs, he’s on advair but not on oxygen yet. He’s 43 yrs old, and has had COPD for about 4 yrs. How long do you think he could live?
