In the New Scientist Magazine 1992
There was an Independent Survey , done by the Institute of Actuaries , that revealed the success rates of al the different Stop Smoking methods…..other known results have been added , and marked with an asterik * Doctor’s Advice 3% Will Power 6% Self Help Books 9% Nicotine Gum 10% Nicotine Patches 15% Acupuncture 25% Hypnotherapy 30% Hypnotherapy 35% (with medical reasons) Hypnotherapy methods devised by Award Winning Professor of Psychiatristy and Professor of Psychology 82% still not smoking 26 months later , after the last session !
* Nicotine patches were not in the Survey…..I don’t think they were about in 1992…..but their success rate is known as being 15%
The NHS promote Nicotine Replacement Therapy……and yet Nicotine Patches are only 15% successful !
Will Power is only 6% successful…..94% of Smokers therefore need help…..and are then only as successful…..as the Method that they use !

He isn’t stared that he might get lung cancer even though he has smoked for 5 years. This is a best-selling book that is supposed to help smokers quit smoking without medication.
do smokers help the economy or hurt it?
If the cigarette prices are high enough, people will have no choice but to stop buying them and buy things they actually need like food and clothing. Im sick of these stinky, filthy littering fire hazard smokers! They should raise the cigarette prices to 0 a pack. Its POISON for me to have to breath that smoke!
I have been smoking since I was 10 years old. That was 10 years ago. What are some of the cheap & easiest ways to stop smoking and get into better health?
I also live with smokers and ride with 2 smokers to work. I am always around it.
I want to quit so bad. i am going to do the patch and i know physically that will help, but the problem i have is how to deal with the mental part. Smokers out there know that when we wake up the first thing we want to have is a cig and frankly i think i have cigs when i am not craving them, but simply because its "time" to have one. like i say ok.i did the dishes..time for a cig and so forth. My question is how do i get over the mental part with out going crazy? thanks

I wake up in the morning and my chest hurts, not only that but when I climb stairs or do anything physical my heart races and I feel like I can’t breathe. I am scared of smoking related diseases and feel like I want to quit but everytime I try to I go back to smoking more. Ex-smokers what did you do to quit, what made you want to quit and how do you stay smoke free. Please help me I feel so weak!
My grandpa is 84 years old this month and he has been smoking (cigars mostly) since he was a teenager. He saw a commercial on tv for this pill to help smokers quit. We’re trying to talk him out of buying them because the side effects may be to hard on his frail old self. He’s kinda stubborn. What can we do?
I’ve been smoking a pack of cigarettes for 8 years now. At the moment, I am cigarette free for 3 days and 11 hours. This is the first time that I try to quit smoking.
So, I have a few questions…
Is it better to stop smoking and use nicotine patches, or discard any form of nicotine replacements?
I’ve been wearing nicotine patches during the day for the first two days, I took the patch off yesterday afternoon and this morning I took it off an hour after I put it on.
Initially, I was thinking of solving my psychological addiction first, and then the physical one (by using 15 mg nicotine patches for a couple of weeks, then 10 mg, and lastly 5 mg).
Oh, by the way… I’ve been feeling a bit slow and weak for the last 24 hours or so, probably from the nicotine withdrawal, but should I just be patient and endure this for a few days, or go to my original idea of gradually decreasing the nicotine intake?
I actually don’t crave a cigarette that much. I can drink coffee without craving, I can have a drink with my friends who are smokers without craving, I don’t have that strange feeling of not knowing what to do with my hands, etc.
But I was just wondering whether to take nicotine replacement or not.
Btw, I’ve just realized that 15 mg dosage is way too much for me because a pack of my cigarette brand contains 12 mg, so I’ll try with the 10 mg patch instead.

In general, cigarettes smell. It means, when being smoked, of course. It smell so hard that if you do nothing against it, it just stays on your cloths, furniture, walls, wardrobe etc. the smell stays around you as a cloud and when you speak or get closer to someone else. Even he doesn’t get it consciously, his nose will always get what you’ve just done. As an effect, many people will desire to be distant from you, here the smell is tolerable. If you like this situation than everything is fine. But, if you don’t, here are some tips as for how to cover up the smell of cigarettes.
There are some solutions, all are just a solution to the smell, it will never return your health to the place where it could have been without it. So, just take care of this issue too. I don’t tell you not to smoke, but… there are consequences.
Then, we can discuss this issue of how to cover up the smell of cigarettes from one’s mouth.
First, you can chew. Chewing gum without sugar is also good for your dental and mouth health, but will also eliminate bad smells. Try to choose one that has a strong smell, such as mint, it would do the job. The second things you can get into your mouth are candies. Here also mint is preferred.
Now, to remove the smell you can also drink or eat something that has strong smell. Drinking will usually suit better because smoking is usually done after eating, so the hunger is usually gone, weather by the cigarette or by the food consumed. You can drink sweet beverage such as cola, fanta, orange juice if you prefer.
For me, the easiest thing to use, the most beneficial and handy is mint spray. A small spray you can hold everywhere, in your house, your room, car, or in a bag if you carry one. Just psssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Hope you found it useful. Have a good breath smell!
Being a smoker for years I had that problem with 3 cars. The first was so old and broken I wouldn’t mind smoking, eating, drinking, having intimate relations in it… no matter what or where, as long as it kept riding I just did everything I could with it. (Well, I was youngJ)
The second was a convertible; I got is as a prize for winning a swimming championship. Great car. Of course, being opened to fresh air all the time made it smell quite well. At that time I swam 9 times a week for 4 hours each time , so being in the water for long hours and then in my convertible to ride from and to my home made me usually a little cold and as a result smell almost nothing.
So for me only the third car is my test case. And yes, it got some strong smell when I left it in the airport parking when I got to a 21 days vacation in Italy. Unfortunately I forgot there a sack from the supermarket with cheese inside. The days were sunny in the parking and when we came back, well, we had a cheese stench as old as 21 days in august. Don’t imagine it to yourself. It is really an unforgettable experience. And so we get to it- How to get smoke smell out of car. My car!
I can count several options but let me save you time, work and money. So, the winning solution, after many experiments is one:
Ozium is an air sanitizer. It masks and also really eliminates the smell. It is a common product and you can find it all over, in many auto stores. You’ll find it in an 8 oz aerosol can. Spray the seats, its front and also the headliners, where the stanch holds most. If you won’t like its clinical odor then you better buy scented air freshener spray and use it afterward.
That’s it! Now you really know how to get smoke smell out of car. If you want you can use the traditional methods such as cleaning with water and vinegar but it will take you hell lots of time and work.
Hope you found it useful. Have a good car smell!
Dear quit smoking experts or better yet, ex-smokers, what are the best quit smoking sites that really support/help one quit this terrible addiction?
I’m highly motivated and am looking for the best support available to succeed, once and for all. Thx. in advance for you help.
Way I looke at it, If Tobacco companies can put things such a nicotine in cigarettes and hook people, thus making themselves rich, why can’t the government get their hands on some of the nicotine slaves money too! (sarcasm)
Do smokers feel like slaves to the Tobacco industry and to our government now? Here in NC, the average carton of Cigs will go up 6 dollars as of monday morning!
BTW……Im not a smoker!
my daughter had to have surgery and the md said you will stop smoking or I won’t do your surgery. He said smokers don’t heal well.I am sick of cigs but I cont to smoke, they are nasty and I hate them but I can’t stop.I am scared of chant ix cause to the psychological side effects.
I quit smoking again a month ago. I had started up again after quitting for six months!! I couldnt believe I started again! Has this happened to other smokers too? Can I expect to quit for good now? Oh, and I have gone cold turkey each time, none of that substituting substances crap.
My girlfriend has been smoking for a few years before I came into her life and now since we are at 6 months I told her that I want her to start quitting because I hate smoking.
She has cut down to almost 3 a week when shes around me, but when she is with her friends (current smokers) or is drinking then she chain smokes non-stop.
It’s obvious that her trying to quit isn’t really cutting it and I want to find a way for her to be able to quit throughout the whole day everyday.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Keep in mind any attempt of me to take action by force results in her getting quite pissed at me, which stresses her more and makes her smoke more, so I’m trying to find an easier way for both of us
Thank you
*EDIT*
Umm we do get drunk more often then usual and the 3 cigs a week is ONLY around me, but she smokes at least half a pack if she’s with her friends.
It’s not a case that she’s has dangerous habits now, but I want to prevent them later if this goes any further. Lord knows if I even thought of asking her to be my wife or somethin’, then smoking would be something of the past
Ive only been smoking for two years, and I would like to quit… its very hard to stop this nasty habit, Anyone have any suggestions/methods on how to quite without quitting cold turkey, or using the patch? Its way to expensive for me…
But smoking has become my biggest addiction. Im tired of spending the money on cigarrettes and polluting my body…also what can I do to get my husband to stop smoking or atleast stop smoking around me once I quit because he is hard headed..because I know if he smokes it will be to easy to give in to temptation…
why is everyone so harsh about smoking its not like Im announcing Im a smoker and Im proud that I hurt my body… I know I cant make my husband stop smoking but it would be nice to give me some suggestions on how to talk to him about not smoking around me or something like that. Non smokers get very angry at this type of question, I know what it does to my body and my teeth and thats one of the biggest reasons I want to quit. It just seems rude to judge someone when they are trying to better themselves
I do appreciate the help, I just dont understand why people are using my question to harp at me about smoking when I want to stop, but for those of you who have offered some good advice I do appreciate it thanks
IM SURE they would like that.
maybe they would sooner us smoke than pay EXTRA 30% tax
and have their mortgage payments go up to 15-20%
and also how many ANTI smokers use the NHS. you know what most of smokers tax pays for.
if all smokers stopped today
what would happen?????
maybe another black monday when interest rates was @ 15%
maybe some of the young anti smokers
are to young to remember.
but lots of people lost their homes
smokers and anti smokers.
and it can happen again.
when we are all made to stop smoking by the GOV.
where will the billions of tax come from.
I haven’t been smoking long- 5 months. I wouldn’t say I was addicted, but I still get daily cravings. Do non-smokers ever stop getting cravings?
Before you start screaming, think about it.
£1.5 billion in health care for smokers and smoking related deseaes, OK, but how much do they make in tax on tobacco products.
It is a known fact that a packet of 20 fags can be sold for less than £1 and the manufacturers still make a profit.
