What are the reasons people want to quit smoking?

I am not a smoker, but often come across people who are very "protective" of their choice to smoke. Why do people start smoking in the first place, then after a time, why do they want to quit?

I know exactly how you feel, I was in a very similar situation. I remember that I was so nervous at that time and I took it out on everyone around me. I didnt know what could I do until, thanks god, I found Smoke Deter. Now I can look back and laugh on myself and in the same time I remember how helpless I was. I hope that I'll never be in the same situation again

When they are young they think it makes them look "cool" and mature ( they do not realize it makes them look stupid). Once they try it, they are hooked and it is extremely difficult to stop. Cigarettes have addictive chemicals added to them to get people addicted – it sells more cigarettes. Not only are cigarettes a death sentence and makes people smell disgustingly bad, have you noticed that most people driving broken down trashed cars are smokers? If they took the $300 or more a month they pay for cigarettes and spent it on a car payment instead of cigarettes, they could drive something far more dependable. And the reason smokers are so denfensive about quitting – they do not want to admit that tiny little thing has them completely under its control and they are too weak to overcome it.

I want to quit because I am afraid of the side effects.
I have been a smoker for 14 years, and I wish I never started.
Some non-smokers don’t understand why a person can’t just "stop smoking". In my opinion, it is extremely hard, you need a cigarette, and it’s all you can think about.
When I started smoking I was 15, and didn’t think about lung cancer, or any other diseases linked with smoking. I wish I had the mind then, like I do now, and knew better.
I am thinking about alternative therepies to help me quit.

It is common for people to start smoking in teens – for many reasons: peer pressure, just because they want to try it etc.

Many are defensive because it is within their rights to smoke if they so choose, some have little time for anti smoking types and unhelpful negative comments.

It makes sense to quit for health and financial reasons among others which are frequent reasons people give for wanting to quit.

I just want to know what, if any, effects the diethylene glycol/propylene glycol have on the body when they are inhaled vs. being absorbed the same way it is absorbed in toothpaste? is it worse than tobacco smoke or is it negligable?
