My inhaler instantle cures any wheezing or tight chested feelings I get from my mild asthma.
However, if I don’t have an inhaler handy, is there some other method/household product or whatever which may have the same effect?

I know exactly how you feel, I was in a very similar situation. I remember that I was so nervous at that time and I took it out on everyone around me. I didnt know what could I do until, thanks god, I found Smoke Deter. Now I can look back and laugh on myself and in the same time I remember how helpless I was. I hope that I'll never be in the same situation again

If I don’t have an inhaler handy (and I have severe asthma) I have been stuck in this position before and I found the instant solution. Go to your nearest coffee shop and order a triple shot of espresso. Don’t add anything at all – yuck, I know. You take the tiny cup when it’s cool enough to handle and take a big enough sip to hold for about 30 seconds or more under your tounge. You keep doing that till it’s gone. It usually clears the asthma symptoms within 5 minutes of starting. The only other thing you must do is remove yourself from any irritant that caused the symptoms – ie. a large crowd of smokers, large dusty areas, a shady area that may contain mold, and for me it was an airport (allergic to rubber and off gassing). I am glad to pass this on to you for help.
I tried adding just a little cream and it failed, just a little sugar will fail it, it must be taken sub lingually black as it came out of the espresso maker.
It’s the caffeine that dilates your lungs, and the old theophillin pills were known to be an equivalent to 24 cups of coffee worth of stimulant similar to caffeine.
No, not really. You could try and calm down your breathing, but nothing is going to open your lungs like Albuterol. Make sure you are using a spacer, you get 80% MORE of the medicine that way!
steam from a kettle spout
Try a paper bag! It helps me.
And without one, just take deep, slow breaths.
And use a humidifier! That helps a lottt
hope it works!
Drink extremely hot coffee. I have had doctors and magazines say this while your having an asthma attack. It does work. Also use Teas Mint or any hot teas. It breaks up the mucous. Another old 100 year remedy is to take garlic and press it or smash it rub on the bottom of both feet. It is a grandma’s remedy. It seems to work also. Slow deep breathing push all air out of lungs and take deep breaths soothing and calming.
No I am afraid not. Also about 15 years ago the Asthma Society produced clear guidelines that steam was NOT to be used to manage asthmatic wheeze as it actually made the problem worse!
You can start doing Yoga deep breathing exercises to help your lungs work better.
You can avoid anything that you know causes the attack.
I have used Vicks VapoRub on a tissue as an assist and it helps but not very rapidly.
Make a pouch for your inhaler and never be without it. Put it on your belt.
You should ALWAYS have your inhaler handy, you cannot mess around with Asthma, you have to be a bit more responsible. Without a bronchial dilator relieving constriction in your chest would be a problem…breathing exercises are sometimes beneficial. To be honest, if you have a prescription that shows you have been prescribed an inhaler within the last 6 months, most pharmacists would sell it to you (not sure they are supposed to, but they do!), if not, and your peak flow drops, then you’ll have to go to hospital. And quite rightly so, you will receive a lecture from the A & E Dr regarding the dangers of poor Asthma managment and misusing (unnecessarily) the emergency services.
And just reiterating what Dr Frank said; steam can make Asthma worse. Also I wouldn’t use Vix Vapour rub either, this will neither help asthma and could make it worse.
Eat/drink something with lots of caffeine. As much and as soon as you can. For some reason this works. Something like coffee without milk so that the caffeine content isn’t watered down by the milk.
Having said that it’s always best to have a reliever with you just in case. Asthma is a horrible disease. Believe me, I know but the coffee method I wrote about above is only for if you haven’t got a reliver inhalor with you, not as a substitute.
I’d love to not use any inhalors because I don’t use things that are tested on animals but the reliever is something you should never be without.
it wont get rid of it it will just reduce the wheezing
I dound out that no matter what just try to breathe in as slowly as possible. Sit on a chair or floor and just breathe in and out slowly. Gasping for air will not help and could make it worse!! u can try leaning back or lean forward(which everyone is more comfortable) ‘
From my own experience…..
On a vacation in Maine last week, I stopped at a coffee shop. Since I have COPD, I jokingly asked the young man behind the counter for something to help me breath better. He immediately said, “Have an espresso”. I thought he was joking,, but then he said that his sister, who has asthma, felt instant relief after after a shot of espresso. I had one, and the relief was almost instant. I swear by it now…have an Espresso machine. Today is the first day I have had NO wheezing at all. Two cups of strong coffee in the morning, and two small shots of strong espresso have done wonders for me!
Coffee is well known as a natural asthma treatment, most doctors will even tell you that. However, it is best as a boost to medical treatment or in an emergency. It should not be what you rely on.
Additionally, you need to be sure to maintain hydration (compensate for the dehydration of caffeine), or it will , in the end, worsen your symptoms.
