What is the role of the hospital nurse when looking after a breathless patient who has copd?

I know that you look at the saturation levels, breathing rate, cynosis. Provide oxygen 2litres and sit the patient up right assess there sputum sample and give reassurance

I know exactly how you feel, I was in a very similar situation. I remember that I was so nervous at that time and I took it out on everyone around me. I didnt know what could I do until, thanks god, I found Smoke Deter. Now I can look back and laugh on myself and in the same time I remember how helpless I was. I hope that I'll never be in the same situation again

You skipped one important thing … auscultation! A good nurse will always "whip out" the ol’ stethscope and listen to breath sounds. You can tell alot about if there is constricted airways or excess fluid buildup from this. Otherwise, encouraging deep breaths and coughing can sometimes help, especially if the O2 SAT’s are dropping.

well I hope they aren’t " breathless" b/c then you would need to look at code status!!!!!

You could also encourage them in purse lipped breathing since you know they have a much longer exhalation and tend to air trap. The tripod position helps them feel better if they are in distress as well.
