This is a question for a research paper i am having to do…what would be a pro of getting a lung transplant if you had a serious chronic pulmonary disease? Cons of a transplant??

Last I knew you had to live in the UK (?# of years) and sign an affidavit that you will never smoke again.
They have been doing lung transplants in the U.S. for many years.
The pro of the transplant would be the person would have a chance to live again. The quality of life with chronic pulmonary disease is not worth living.
The con is the person could die on the operating room table.
This question is fairly complicated for people with chronic lung disease. Most people considering transplant cannot walk up more than two stairsteps at a time and need oxygen from a tank in order to do almost any small activity.
Pros – Live possibly longer. Live possibly better (able to do normal activity).
Cons – Five year survival is only around 50%. Need to take a ton of medicine to prevent rejection (including steroids which can cause you to get fat, bald, and diabetic). Immune suppression makes you susceptible to disease.
