I’m a 3 1/2 year smoking i smoke anywhere from a 1/2 pack to a full pack a day, depends on stress level. I want to quit but don’t believe I can do cold turkey. Just wondering what way I should go that will actually work!

I know exactly how you feel, I was in a very similar situation. I remember that I was so nervous at that time and I took it out on everyone around me. I didnt know what could I do until, thanks god, I found Smoke Deter. Now I can look back and laugh on myself and in the same time I remember how helpless I was. I hope that I'll never be in the same situation again

The best way of quitting is following a method. http://stopsmoking.eu.pn/ is a new approach on quitting for everyone who seriously wants to stop smoking, and it’s completely free; there’s no need to buy anything, no medications, no gum nor patches, even no weight-gain.
Okay I know this is a longshot but it worked for me. I started smoking at the age of 13 and had a love hate relationship with it until I was 28. At my peak I was smoking a pack a day but mostly about half a pack like you. I tried to quit and did for a couple years a couple of times and kept telling myself I’d quit next year. By the time I was 28 I realized that I was never going to quit and I needed to do something drastic because the addiction is powerful so you need to do something powerful to quit. Cold Turkey works but it is only a side effect of another major Life Change.
In the running community there are virtually no smokers. I took up running 4 times per week a little over a year ago and I have not smoked since and have no desire to, even in social situation or when I’m drinking. The costs of smoking and losing my aerobic fitness level is not worth it. I have put too much work into improving my fitness level to lose anything to smoking.
I run 30-40 miles per week and run in races and my goal is the marathon. You can join a running club like Team In Training, RoadRunners, or the Pacers, or go to your local running specialty shop and ask them about a running club. I am in a running club and have met another member who also overcame his addiction through running. Running is not like going to the gym or swimming, or any other sport. It is an All Encompassing Activity that requires a major life change that will make you quit smoking. Assuming you enjoy the sport, and run 4 times per week and can sustain this level for almost a year, inertia will naturally drive you to continue running, therefore, preventing you from smoking.

I used the nicotine gum. For me the hardest thing was the habit of smoking so i replaced it with the gum. i used that for about a month and gradually reduced it. i replaced it with normal gum. i haven’t smoked (or chewed) in two months.
Having said that every body is different and different things work best for different people. it takes a couple of serious tries before a person can quit for good. Try a few different things and see what works for you.
Hello!
take a look at this discussion forum thread. Maybe electronic cigarettes are something for you.
Some say that using electronic cigarettes can help you quit smoking. Currently there is no scientific evidence for or against it. One option is to gradually lower the level of nicotine in your cartridges to become nicotine and tobacco free.
The other option is to smoke electronic cigarettes with zero nicotine cartridges while applying nicotine patches. That way you separate addiction and habit.
Good Luck! It’s not easy …
Scientifically, the most effective way to quit smoking is using Varenicline the prescription medication available from your GP alongside a quit smoking support program.
It has the highest success rate.
That said there are numeruos ways and aids you can use in your approach to quitting see: http://www.quit-smoking-stop.com/ways-to-quit-smoking.html but whatever route you take, above all else, you really need to want to stop.
You can try the various methods of Nicotine Replacement Therapy. This is one way of quitting smoking by a process and not in a very sudden means that often fail. There are nicotine patches, gums, lozenges, etc. You can choose what would be best for you. Be sure to be guided by your doctor when undergoing this program.
